A remaster fans might have not anticipated seeing announced during a Nintendo Direct was Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series.

This collection combines both the original Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil in one package for fans new and old.

In it, players set off on an epic adventure to save the world by running and jumping their way through levels using a wind ring to grab and throw enemies.

The remaster includes adjustable difficulty levels tailored for different experiences along with two-player local co-op.

Previously unreleased outside of Japan, Live A Live is an RPG developed by Square that’s set to release for the Switch with an HD-2D graphical upgrade.

The game tells seven different stories centered on different protagonists, time periods, and gameplay styles.

Players will get to experience these tales in any order they choose and unlock more as they progress.

While the original 1994 game received positive reviews regarding its unique gameplay and narrative, it failed to sell enough units to be considered a success at the time.

Set in the American southwest, Saints Row is a remake of the original 2006 open-world game developed by Volition and published by Deep Silver.

In it, players navigate the crime-ridden streets of Santo Ileso, a city under control of three criminal gangs: Los Panteros, the Idols, and Marshall Defense Industries.

Taking on the role of “Boss,” players will recruit a team of dissatisfied for-hire criminals to take on each gang and seize their power.

The remake is anticipated to steer away from the traditionally wacky tone of the Saints Row series to strike a better balance between comedy and seriousness.

A recent Nintendo Direct confirmed that a remake of the classic Japanese tactical RPG Front Mission would be releasing for the Switch later this summer.

Set during the year 2090, the story follows Captain Royd Clive as he searches for his fiancée after she goes missing in action.

During his journey, Royd will meet dozens of characters and battle against the evil forces behind the war.

The series is known for its relatively mature storytelling which explores themes of political turmoil, military conflicts, and the effects of both on civilization.

Anyone who didn’t get a chance to play Uncharted 4 or The Lost Legacy will have another opportunity with the upcoming Legacy of Thieves Collection.

This brand-new remastered bundle includes updated versions of both games with a host of graphical, audio, and performance improvements for PS5 and PC.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sees Nathan Drake venturing into the Madagascar jungle in search of a long-lost treasure while Lost Legacy chronicles the adventures of Chloe and Nadine as they explore India’s Western Ghats looking for the Golden Tusk of Ganesh.

If you never got to play these games the first time around or perhaps want to revisit two fantastic PlayStation exclusives, you can pick up Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection later this year.

Despite being one of the more revered Nintendo franchises, there hasn’t been a new Advance Wars game in over a decade.

Thankfully, that’s about to change when Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp releases on the Switch early next year.

Touted as a comprehensive remake of the first two games in the series: Advance Wars and AW2: Black Hole Rising, it features updated graphics and refined gameplay.

In it, players will lead the Orange Star Army into battle while leveraging land, air, and naval units in order to capture towns and take down enemy squads.

While The Witcher 3 may have launched back in 2015, it still remains one of gaming’s most impressive fantasy RPGs.

Originally teased in September 2020, the enhanced version of The Witcher 3 will introduce a host of free upgrades for current-gen systems and PC.

This includes support for up to 60 fps performance, 4K resolutions, ray-tracing, faster load times, and compatibility with the DualSense and new Xbox controllers.

It’s reported that CD Projekt Red has been wokring with community modder Halk Hogan (creator of the popular Witcher HD Reworked mod) to bring The Witcher 3 Remastered to players later this year.

Square Enix has announced they’re currently working on bringing the classic RPG Dragon Quest III to modern standards with an upcoming HD-2D Remake.

This is just in time for the franchise’s 35th anniversary and is planned to have a simultaneous global release without any localization delays.

The most notable difference is a shift to a bird’s eye view camera and modified 2.5D visuals reminiscent of games like Octopath Traveller and Project Triangle Strategy.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will also feature fully 3D environments and updated animations for its pixel art character sprites.

We’d also like to highlight an official remake of the original Dead Space that’s currently in development at Motive Studios.

Considering Dead Space 3 released back in 2013, the return of EA’s iconic sci-fi horror survival shooter has been long overdue.

The remake will breathe fresh life into the 2008 original with completely remade assets, visual effects, expanded dialogue, and more.

However, at its core the story remains the same: engineer Isaac Clarke finds himself aboard a derelict mining vessel whose crew has turned into grotesque monsters.

The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is fondly remembered as one of the most groundbreaking video game releases for its incredible scope, immersive gameplay, and epic narrative.

The ability to travel to multiple planets meeting a wide range of diverse characters and encountering larger than life foes made for an incredible experience that wasn’t as common back then as it is today.

With an upcoming remake in the pipeline by Aspyr Media, Lucasfilm Games, and Sony Interactive Ent., we can’t wait to see how the classic holds up after all this time.

Of course, players can expect an abundance of technical improvements to be included seeing as KOTOR Remake is being rebuilt from the ground up using the latest tech available.

Despite having the dated graphics of a 90s PC game, Blade Runner still does a great job of depicting the franchise’s cyberpunk world.

With that said, it wouldn’t stand to lose anything from a graphical facelift that brings the twenty-year-plus old point-and-click game to today’s standards.

Currently in development by Nightdive Studios, Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition will add a host of visual and performance improvements including smoother character models and environments.

While the game has had a rocky development due to technical issues and missing source code, if any developer can pull off a project like this, it’s Nightdive.

The cult 1995 first-person shooter Rise of the Triad will make a comeback in an upcoming remaster currently in development by 3D Realms.

While it’s far from the first retro FPS to receive an updated version, Rise of the Triad Remastered will be the first entry in the franchise available on modern consoles.

It’s set to feature widescreen support, mouselook support, revamped multiplayer, and a classic mode that lets players stick to the original’s look.

Even though Triad fans would probably prefer a new entry, this is good news for anyone who’s been waiting for a more accessible way to play the original.

It’s been nearly a decade since Ubisoft released a new entry in the Prince of Persia series, with the last game being 2010’s The Forgotten Sands.

That’s all set to change after the company revealed an upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake is currently underway.

The game follows a Prince who finds himself entangled in a feud between his father and a corrupt adversary.

At the center of the story is a powerful artifact known as the Dagger of Time, which grants the user the ability to control time.

The Fear Effect games had their run during the early 2000s on PS1 and are mostly remembered for their cel-shaded art and clumsy controls.

Following the release of a standalone spin-off, developer Kronos Digital is looking to capitalize on the series’ resurgence with Fear Effect Reinvented.

It sees players controlling three mercenaries tasked with rescuing the daughter of one of Hong Kong’s biggest criminal leaders.

In addition to updating the original’s graphics, Reinvented will introduce gameplay modifications tailored for today’s players while staying faithful to the story.

Following THQ Nordic’s acquisition of Piranha Bytes back in May 2019, the company has begun working on a remake of the classic 2001 action RPG Gothic.

For the remake, THQ Nordic appears to be leaving the story alone, instead focusing on updating the game’s visuals and combat.

In it, you play as a prisoner of a mining colony who receives a letter requesting him to seek out a group of wizards knowns as the Order of the Magicians of Fire.

If you would like to check out the game for yourself, THQ has released a free playable teaser you can download through Steam.

A remake of the 1999 PC-based first-person shooter Kingpin: Life of Crime is currently in development and expected to release later this year.

Described as an “enhanced re-release,” Kingpin Reloaded will revisit the Quake II engine classic while supporting up to 4K resolutions and introducing an Enhanced Mode with adjusted graphics.

Additional characteristics include controller support, new quest and dialogue systems, and more.

However, the story remains unchanged for the most part and sees you becoming the leader of a street gang as you set out to exact revenge on your enemies and dethrone the Kingpin.

Technically a remaster, Braid Anniversary Edition will soon be the definitive way to play Jonathan Blow’s original masterpiece.

In it, you control a man named Tim as he attempts to rescue a princess from an evil monster using time manipulation.

The game was meant to be a critique of contemporary trends in video games but ended up being a solid puzzle platformer in its own right.

The rerelease will feature remastered artwork, animations, and music that will look and sound better on high-resolution displays.

When the original System Shock was released in 1994, critics praised the game’s relatively realistic physics and the scale of its 3D environments.

Today, the series is remembered for elevating the first-person genre even though its success was short-lived.

Fortunately, developer Night Dive Studios is looking to bring the original back to life with a backer-funded remake currently in the works.

The remake will yet again see us controlling a resourceful hacker as they explore a space station brimming with terrifying creatures and a hostile AI named SHODAN.
